**HITTING STORES THIS FRIDAY, MAY 15!
Green Day‘s long-awaited eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, is the trio’s first studio disc since 2004′s Grammy- winning Best Rock Album American Idiot, which debuted at #1, spawned five hit singles, and sold more than 900 thousand copies in Canada. Produced by Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage), 21st Century Breakdown continues American Idiot‘s punkrock opera format. Divided into three acts-Heroes And Cons, Charlatans And Saints, and Horseshoes And Handgrenades-the songs follow a young couple, Christian and Gloria, as they experience the disappointment and promise of the new millennium. The focus track on the album is “Know Your Enemy“.
STEVE EARLE
Townes

“Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan‘s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” – Steve Earle
Steve Earle’s new album Townes, is his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album Washington Square Serenade. The 15-song set is comprised of songs written by Earle’s friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt. The songs selected were the ones that meant the most to Earle, ones he personally connected to, and some were songs that Earle has played his entire career. The track “Lungs“, was produced and mixed by the Dust Brothers’ John King and features Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine/The Nightwatchman on electric guitar.
TG: What does Steve Earle (undeniable super-awesome singer/songwriter) get when he records the songs of his idol Townes Van Zandt (undeniable super-awesome singer/songwriter). My great appreciation and my cash. Dumbass!
BETTER THAN EZRA
Paper Empire
www.betterthanezra.com
Dist: Sony BMG Canada
New Orleans’ favorite sons Better Than Ezra release their 6th studio album, Paper Empire. Full of the great hooks and melodies that the band is famous for (Hit singles include “Good“, “Desperately Waiting” and “King Of New Orleans“), Paper Empire marks yet another step forward in main Ezra songwriter Kevin Griffin‘s evolution as a master tune smith and builds on the great work Kevin has done writing with and for artists like Howie Day, David Cook, Train and Missy Higgins. The record’s first single “Absolutely Still” is about the moment in time when all the noise and hurry of the world is shut out and you’re left with the complete understanding of someone or something.
THE CRYSTAL METHOD
Divided By Night
www.thecrystalmethod.com
Dist: Universal Music Canada
This is the fourth record by Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, or The Crystal Method. Divided By Night is the duo’s most inventive and accomplished album to date. Launched with the momentous single “Drown in the Now“, their infectious collaboration with mic master Matisyahu makes a unique and memorable musical statement. More guests on the album include New Order bassist Peter Hook, Metric front-woman Emily Haines, former Hole and Peaches drummer Samantha Maloney, one-time Granddaddy front- man Jason Lytle, and hip-hop up and comers LMFAO.
THE DREADNOUGHTS
Victory Square
www.thedreadnoughts.com
Dist: Warner Music Canada
Formed in 2006 over pints of cheap beer at East Vancouver’s notoriously violent Ivanhoe Hotel, the Dreadnoughts cut their teeth in the roughest dive bars in the city. They started by opening for (and earning the praise of) celtic-punk grandfathers The Real McKenzies, and since then have never looked back. Hauling a fiddle, an accordion, a mandolin, a tin whistle, guitars and drums into every venue that would have them, they quickly became known for their powerful, chaotic live performances. In three short years they have slowly but surely joined the ranks of Canada’s punk rock heroes.
OTD: Catch the Dreadnoughts with the Motherfuckers and the Press Gang at Dicken’s Pub in Calgary on May 21st!
CAM’RON
Crime Pays
Dist: Warner Music Canada
Platinum recording artist and founder of the highly successful crew The Diplomats, Cam’ron releases his 8th album, Crime Pays. After a highly publicized split with former underlings Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zeekey, Cam’ron returns with a vengeance. Cam’ron’s “I Hate My Job“, paints the perfect picture of the frustrated everyman, the struggling every woman. This is Cam’ron the realist. But after being the most elusive rapper on the planet for almost two years, it’s ironic justice that Harlem’s own would return to the spotlight with the new theme song for the 2009 state of mind.
PAUL WALL
Fast Life
www.djpaulwall.com
Dist: Warner Music Canada
When The People’s Champ was certified platinum in 2005, Paul became one of rap music’s most revered hustlers. After popularizing and creating grills for hip-hop heavyweights like T.I., Lil Jon and Fat Joe, Paul became a cultural icon. His latest LP, Fast Life, is not only a celebration of his many successes, but a moving testament of the endless hours he dedicated to becoming the chart-topping MC he is today. Featuring guests like Pittbull, Webbie, Yung Joc, and Tech N9ne, Fast Life is further proof that hard work pays off. Former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker offers up three productions on Fast Life including the drug-induced “Pop One of These” featuring Too $hort, Skinhead Rob and The Federation.
ISIS
Wavering Radiant

For their fifth album Wavering Radiant Isis, the Los Angeles by way of Boston quintet, brought in producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, The Melvins) to give them a slightly darker, dirtier edge than their previous efforts. The band says they went for a more orchestral feel and had more interplay among instruments than ever before. Isis also invited Adam Jones of Tool into the studio to play guest guitar on two of Wavering Radiant‘s seven tracks.

HANNE HUKKELBERG
Blood From A Stone
hanne.hukkelberg.net
Dist: Sony BMG Canada
Blood From A Stone is the third album for the Norwegian artist best known for her imaginative use of found sounds and eclectic array of instrumentation, set to a widescreen production and filled with wide-eyed wonderment. In part inspired by her past as a member of various rock and metal bands (especially their live incarnations) and in part by her 80′s dominated collection of indie/rock albums, HANNE acknowledges that the likes of Sonic Youth, Cocteau Twins, Pixies and P.J. Harvey have all exerted an influence over her new songs and one can also detect traces of Siouxsie & The Banshees at their most oblique.

Star Trek
Dist: Outside
Michael Giacchino (whose musical credits include Lost, Rataouille and The Incredibles) has served as J.J. Abrams‘ musical lieutenant on all his projects and follows the extraordinary rich musical legacy of Alexander Courage, Jerry Goldsmith, and James Horner as he boards the Enterprise for her maiden voyage.
“A truly great artist, Michael maximizes the intention of the story – moment to moment – without being distracting or calling attention to himself. His music is such a natural, critical, intrinsic piece of the puzzle that if you ever want to see just how important his contribution is, turn down the volume and watch a scene without his master touch.” – Director/Producer J.J. Abrams
