Iron Maiden - Flight 666 (The Original Soundtrack)

British heavy rock legends, Iron Maiden will be releasing their feature length documentaryIRON MAIDEN: FLIGHT 666 in Canada on CD, DVD, and Blu Ray formats. The movie follows the band on the first leg of their Somewhere Back In Time World Tour as they experienced the most ambitious and adventurous tour in rock history. Circumnavigating the globe, the band flew in a specially customized Boeing 757 airliner christened Ed Force One with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, playing 23 sold out stadium and arena shows. Remarkably, lead singer and Airline Captain Bruce Dickinson not only performed 23 shows, but he was also the pilot flying the plane for much of the way. The 2 CD Soundtrack component features 16 Live Iron Maiden tracks from various locations on the tour including “Hallowed Be Thy Name” from the Toronto show at the Air Canada Centre.

SONIC YOUTH
The Eternal

Sonic Youth - The Eternal (Bonus Track Version)

The Eternal is Sonic Youth’s 2009 celebration of newfound freedom. After many years signed to an ever precarious corporate label, the band has been liberated and is releasing their 16th studio album with their friends at Matador. Inspirations ran high in preparation for the recording. Abandoning the time tested routine of writing and rehearsing a cycle of songs in one time period, Sonic Youth changed tactics and would compose two to three tracks one weekend and record them the following weekend. After a solid month they had a dozen killers. The Eternal is a super-charged rocker, recalling aspects of the Evol, Sister, Daydream Nation holy trinity, but with cleaner, louder production and with more straightforward momentum. The lead single from the album is “Sacred Trickster.”

KASABIAN
West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

www.kasabian.co.uk
Dist: Sony Music Canada

Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

Two years in the making, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is the sound of a band at the peak of their powers. The third studio album by the band from Leicester, England is a fifty-two minute mash up of sky-scraping melodies, electro-punk riffs, Morricone-esque symphonies, mariachi stomps and psych-pop lullabies, it is both a stadium sized declaration of intent and a bar-raising benchmark for rock music in 2009. The first cut on the album “Underdog” is featured in a worldwide media campaign for Sony Bravia TV’s. The ad began airing overseas in March with plans for the spot to run in the North America in the fall. However the lead single from the album will be “Fire”.

MOS DEF
The Ecstatic

Dist: Universal Music Canada
Mos Def - The Ecstatic

Since bringing Chuck Berry back to life with his fantastic performance in Cadillac Records, Mos Def (Dante Terrell Smith) returns to his first love with a brand new album. The Ecstatic is Mos Def’s fourth solo studio album and highlights the single “Life In Marvelous Times.” Regarded as one of the most insightful artists of our time, musician, activist and actor Mos Def has captured the attention of critics and audiences alike with a celebrated body of work that has crossed all artistic genres- from music to the Broadway stage, film and television.

Dist: Universal Music Canada
Placebo - Battle for the Sun

With a 13 year history that takes in 5 studio albums including their hugely successful breakthrough Without You I’m Nothing that spanned the hits “Pure Morning” and “Every You Every Me”, and 10 million album sales, Placebo are set to return with their new album Battle For The Sun. Recorded over three months by producer Dave Bottrill (Tool) in his Toronto studio and mixed in London by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails), Placebo’s sixth album is a startling, alive, vital and boundary-vaulting record that with the help of it’s first single “For What It’s Worth,” marks a whole new era for the band.

BIDINIBAND
The Land Is Wild

www.davebidini.ca
Dist: Universal Music Canada

Bidiniband - The Land Is Wild

The Bidiniband’s Land is Wild features writer and formerRheostatic Dave Bidini, which is a good thing considering his name is part of the band’s. It’s the debut solo release from the author, playwright, film-maker– but in this case, rhythm guitarist–possessing more songs about dead hockey players, cannibalism and lesbian school teachers. Besides its avowed leader, members of the BidiniBand include former Rheostatic Don Kerr on drums and guitar; guitarist Paul Linklater; and Doug Friesen on bass. Don also produced the record.

Hill Country Revue - Make a Move

Hill Country Revue is THE modern Southern Rock / Blues band for the new generation. Formed by Cody Dickinson from The North Mississippi Allstarsin 2008, it features Chris Chew, Kirk Smithhart, Ed “Hot” Cleveland and Dixie Dan Coburn. Make A Move is the band’s debut album. “This is really back to the roots of blues,” says Cody of the upcoming record. “It’s funky. Really nasty, that’s the best way to describe it. Gritty, messy, stripped-down.” The current single from the album is “You Can Make It”.

DALA
Everyone Is Someone

Dist: Universal Music Canada

Dala - Everybody Is Someone

From their high school music class all the way to Massey Hall, Amanda and Sheila of Dala have come a long way in a short time. These two best friends based out of Toronto have performed many times to audiences across Canada with previous popular singles like “20 Something”, touring with the likes of Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Matthew Good and most recently Stuart McLean of the CBC’s Vinyl Café. Now with the completion of their fourth album Everyone Is Someone, Dala is bringing their signature style of acoustic pop music to Canadian ears again with the single “Levi Blues”, a song that is already climbing the charts.

PETER HOLSAPPLE & CHRIS STAMEY
Here And Now

www.holsapplestamey.com
Dist: Warner Music Canada

Peter Holsapple & Chris Stamey - Here and Now

“hERE aND nOw” is the first new collaboration in almost two decades by Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey, the acclaimed songwriters of the dB’s. The album features Branford Marsalis on two tracks: the single “Early in the Morning” and Peter’s ode to New Orleans, “Begin Again.” The acoustic side of the duo, reminiscent of their 1992 RNA album Mavericks, comes to the fore on tracks such as “Long Time Coming,” one of several that features Greg Readling on pedal steel. The lead track, “My Friend the Sun,” is a cover of a classic from the legendary British prog-pop band Family. Stamey says, “We tried to pick songs that would not seem out of place with the vibe of Mavericks, that could sit alongside the uncynical exuberance and unblinkered romanticism of the Lovin’ Spoonful, the Beach Boys, and the Everly Brothers.

JASON PLUMB AND THE WILLING
Wide Open Music: Songs For Saskatchewan

www.jasonplumb.com
Dist: Warner Music Canada
Jason Plumb & The Willing - Wide Open Music: Songs for Saskatchewan

In the world of contemporary pop music, where “extended careers” and “timeless bodies of work” are not commonplace, Saskatchewan-based Jason Plumb is an exception. From hit singles and memorable album tracks with The Waltons and solo albums to soundtracks and theme songs, Plumb has consistently created music that has been embraced by Canadian audiences.

Wide Open Music is a set of songs that are connected by his love for his home province, while offering up a broad view of what is and what inhabits Saskatchewan. It’s a recording that also puts a focus on Plumb as a leader of an exceptionally tight and talented band, appropriately dubbed The Willing.

CHARLIE MARS
Like A Bird, Like A Plane

www.charliemars.com
Dist: Sony Music Canada

Charlie Mars - Like a Bird, Like a Plane

Those keeping score will mark this as Charlie Mars’ fifth album, but upon first listen,Like A Bird, Like A Plane can best be described as a new debut. Over the course of 11 songs, Mars hits a groove that does not signify any specific genre but instead is hardwired to hearts and hips. For this album, Mars solicited players who understood how to form all four corners instead of facing straight ahead: Drummer J. J. Johnson (John Mayer), keyboardist John Ginty (Citizen Cope), bass players George Reiff (Jakob Dylan) and Dave Monzie (Fiona Apple), and producer and guitarist Billy Harvey. Parts evolved from happy accidents or group decisions; in many cases, the sweet spot was hit at first take. The video for the marijuana themed first single “Listen To The Darkside” featuresMary Louise Parker from the television hit series Weeds.

THE MEATMEN
Cover The Earth

Dist: Universal Music Canada

Meatmen - Cover the Earth

After a 12 year lapse, The Meatmen bounce back big with a 24 track ode to the tuneage of yore with Cover The Earth which features all of Tesco’s favorite musical blasts of the last 40 years. Some are obvious… FEAR, GG Allin, Johnny Thunders and some are real head scratches… Jimmy Dean, 10CC, The Temptations. All delivered in reverential but irreverent form by the latest and greatest men of Meat! Features a full color 12 page booklet and all the between song shtick one comes to expect from a new Meat platter. Also features a return of the legendary Hebrew pitchman Shecky Schpilkis in “Sex Mart 2010.”

DIRTY PROJECTORS
Bitte Orca

myspace.com/dirtyprojectors
Dist: Outside Music

Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

Album five, Bitte Orca reprises the lineup of Amber Coffman (vocals, guitar), Angel Deradoorian (vocals, keyboard, guitar, bass), and drummer Brian Mcomber from 2007’s Rise Above, Bitte Orca also adds bassist Nat Baldwin and vocalist Haley Dekle to the fold, resulting in what sounds like Dirty Projectors’ first fully collaborative band record. From curtain-raising opener “Cannibal Resource” to the “Temecula Sunrise” metal-jazz spin on sunny ‘70s rock, and “Useful Chamber” minimal electronics, ornate vocal harmonies, and Beef heart does Graceland instrumentation, Bite Orca contains the Projectors’ best songs to date.

FIFTYWATTHEAD
Fogcutter

myspace.com/fiftywatthead
Dist: Outside Music

Fiftywatthead - Fogcutter

Fiftywatthead are hands down the most lethal and crushing band to come out of the Great White North. Formed in 1999, Fiftywatthead are definitely not overnight sensations. The Windsor, Ontario quartet had previously released two monstrous albums: “Volume One” and “Rock n Roll Killer” before finally unleashing their latest installment Fogcutter which is said to contains all of the ballast of a sock full of nickels. Their aim is pure brutality. They couldn’t give a f#*! about being your facebook friend… nope, they just want to crush your cranium in.

KATHRYN WILLIAMS AND NEILL MACCOLL
Two

Dist: Sony Music Canada

Kathryn Williams and Neill MacColl - Two

Supremely talented Mercury prize nominee Kathryn Williams and amazing guitarist/vocalist Neill MacColl teamed up to record the critically-acclaimed TWO, one of the most astonishingly beautiful albums to see the light of day in recent years. Williams has become known as one of the UK’s most respected singer/songwriters and was honored with a Mercury Prize nomination in 2000. MacColl is the son of Ewan MacColl, who wrote “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” for his mother Peggy Seeger. The two met at the Daughters of Albion concert (part of the BBC’s Folk Britannia season), where they had been paired to perform “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”
