Experienced Los Angeles-based Irish rockers Flogging Molly put on a special show for a packed out Commodore Ballroom, in Vancouver, last week.
The popularity of the seven-piece band is such that they were handed two shows on Thursday and Friday (October 29 and 30) for two packed audiences to let their hair down to their trademark Irish rock.
Opening up the show was classic rock’n'roll band Dean Lickyer, from Hamilton, Ontario, who warmed up the crowd with their intoxicating mix of traditional rocky vocals from frontman Joshua Alvernia supported by some powerful guitar solos by guitarist Sean Royle.
Next up was power punk rockers Inward Eye, the three Erickson brothers hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, whose energetic set had the crowd raring to go for the entrance of Flogging Molly.
Cue the appearance of the Irish rockers, who duly delivered a whopping 24-song set mix of their classic hits from the last 12 years and a helping of tracks from their latest album Float working the crowd into a moshing, sweaty frenzy. The band’s performances are uniquely entertaining, with all seven of them loving being on stage and responding to the crazed enthusiasm of their die-hard fans.
Major hits with the audience were classics “Worst Day Since Yesterday” and “Drunken Lullabies,” which show off the band’s incredible diversity due to the huge range of instruments played throughout the night, from an accordion to a concertina and a banjo.
On the basis of this performance Flogging Molly, ably supported by two excellent Canadian bands, are very much still at the top of their game and cannot afford to be missed performing live in the flesh.
