The Longest Way 1.0 is a quick video diary posted by Christoph Rehage earlier this year, chronicling his intent to walk from Beijing, China all the way to Germany. Although he didn’t complete the journey as planned, he made it about one year on foot (with a number of bus, truck and plane rides which although did not contribute to the distance he walked, was necessary to sort out several things of either personal or bureaucratic nature). In all, he walked 4,500 kms before returning home.
The video was named one of Time’s top ten viral videos of 2009 and displays in quick fashion the people and places he encountered. It also showcases his hair and beard growth during the year-long walk, starting off clean shaven and ending with his mangy head and chin being shaved back to it’s near original form.
The German student made sure to include the music o Zhu Fengbo (“Olive Tree”) and more prominently, The Kingpins‘ “L’aventurier” (who he speaks highly of) from Montreal. Make sure to check out more of their ska/reggae music on their MySpace page.
