the Smalls Considering a Reunion Tour?

Posted by cristóvão On May - 21 - 2010

Earlier today (WAY earlier), something happened on facebook that suddenly gave rise to hope for many an Albertan. An announcement. A rumour? The prospect that if there is enough interest from fans of the Smalls, that the band is considering a reunion tour.

You read that right my friends.

I’m still waiting for confirmation from Terry Johnson on the validity of this prospect but seeing as he has (presumably) posted updates on the Smalls’ facebook page numerous times in the past day (plus a couple more from back in April and February) asking for video footage and photos, there could be something to this. The last update read as follows;

“Who’s got footage from any smalls show ever? I am trying to get as much together as possible for a compilation dvd. Anyone interested in buying that type of thing? What about a reunion tour? Do you guys think we could get a few people out to see us? Let’s hear what you think…

The update has been ‘liked’ and commented on dozens of times in mere hours and all have been favourable. Fans not only from Alberta but from across Canada and even as far away as Australia are ITCHING to see this band featuring Johnson, Michael Caldwell, Corb Lund and Dug Bevans. I’ve put the word out to see if I can obtain some sort of confirmation on whether this is a serious call out for fans to convince the band to reunite and tour. In the meantime, if you have any video footage from past Smalls shows, visit the Smalls’ facebook page for details on where to send it.

All I have to say is, please let this be true!

  1. That would be amazing! The Smalls are one of my favorite bands yet I’ve never seen them live.

    I’m with you. I moved here just when they played their last show but didn’t discover them until after it was too late. A reunion would be SO SWEET! I hope it’s true.

    Unfortunately I got into The Smalls just a little too late and they had recently broken up before I got the chance to see them. Heart breaking considering they are one of the most influential bands I’ve ever heard in my 30 years on this earth. Being a fan of all types of music from Portishead to Puscifer, no other band had the diversity they seemed to master, yet they kept completely grass roots with a signature sound true to The Smalls. I could ramble all night but fact is, THIS is what Canadian Music is all about!

    Songs to listen to – My Dear Little Angle, Easter, Pity The Man With The Fast Right Hand, Bit By A Little.

    (I’ve even made my own Smalls T-shirt. Since I can’t seem to find any originals.)

    Words well spoken.

    I’d love to see said t-shirt!
