Auteur Research, in the most obvious terms, is about telling people about great music. There’s a multitude of ways at our disposal for doing this now, and I try to utilize as many as possible, Off The Dial included! We welcome them and their monthly contribution!

The Dirty Nil
Who: Three young guys who like to play loud, with as much fuzz, noise, distortion as possible. A combo of Weezer, Nirvana, The Replacements, and something I can’t quite put my finger on. Big names but deserved. New double A-side 7” single for FUCKIN’ UP YOUNG/VERONA LUNG is digitally free…for now. Look for the house party video (taken at my house) below.
What: “decibelastic garage rock” - My Old Kentucky Blog
“A-side “Fuckin’ Up Young” is the best slab of Blue Album-era Weezer we’ve heard in years. But where Rivers comes across as the victim, Dirty Nil guitarist/frontman Luke Bentham plays the pissed-off kid who ain’t taking no more shit.” - EXCLAIM!
“The Official Summer Jam of 2011″ - Philebrity
Who: Virtuosic bass player from the Dirty Projectors. He’s also lent his talents to Vampire Weekend, St Vincent, Bjork, and Department of Eagles. I was lucky enough to witness him filming with Southern Souls when he came to Hamilton this past summer. The unreleased track “In The Hollows” is a true stunner. The performance was one of those magic moments in my life.
What:“Nat Baldwin’s upright bass is Joanna Newsom’s harp, Andrew Bird’s violin – a partner so indispensable, it’s a personal trait. Over a gorgeous bull-fiddle hum, he belts out these melismatic flourishes… This delivery is terrifically earnest, terrifyingly intimate, and terribly special.” –The Boston Phoenix
“His musical imagination is expansive, while his lack of pretense is admirable” –Pitchfork

Who: Part of the first wave of punk, playing with Teenage Head and The Shakers. Still touring relentlessly, Dave has been on the road for over a year now in support of his new record “Live With What You Know. Single Anne-Marie charted all summer on US radio, and a new single from the record should be hitting the airwaves anytime now!
What: “Sweet acoustic and electric riffs, simple piano and crisp and clean vocals. Dave sings his cleverly crafted lyrics with passion and believability” – Explore Music
“…straight from the 60’s and showing that Rave is only getting better with age.” – The MusicNerdChronicles
