What do you get when you have three local bands of varying rock styles, copious amounts of inebriants, green vinyl records and a brand new digital camera all set in the infamous Castle Pub? A shortened live review, that’s what. Oh, and great night of course.
PC Theft hit the stage well after 22:00 hrs (10pm) and ripped through their set of thrash-punk. It was unbridled, raw and a little sloppy but it is thrash-punk. Damn Dirty Ape were fantastic and could have played for hours but of course, their friends still had their set to play and the bar does need to close at two in the morning. GutterAwl set up as quickly as possible and had an impressive performance, complete with a wandering Mark Overland. He played most of the set on the floor in front of the stage. When I say “on the floor”, I mean that literally. He was standing, laying down, spinning around and finished with a Hendrix-like stance over his guitar. He even strolled down the corridor to the washrooms at one point.
The show ended so late that the ugly lights came on and GutterAwl still had a couple of songs to go. It was quite an evening to say the least. Make sure to check out the pictures!
Release Is Glenn Danzig’s Response to Fans’ Request
“This album wasn’t planned as a way of clearing out the vaults just for the sake of getting new material out there. It’s something that fans have been asking me for.” That’s what Glenn Danzig told Blistering.com regarding the upcoming release of Danzig’s double-disc of unreleased material titled “The Lost Tracks of Danzig”.
The twenty-six tracks were culminated from recording sessions shortly after his previous group, Samhain in 1988 through to leftover cuts from the last Danzig release “Circle of Snakes” in 2004. Some songs have either been performed before or appeared on unofficial bootlegs but none of these versions have been released. There are covers of David Bowie’s “Cat People”, the Germs’ “Caught In My Eye” and T.Rex’s “Buick McKane”. Also included on the collection is “Satan’s Crucifixion”, an apparent joke song from the “Danzig IV” sessions. The story goes that the group recorded the song to try and scare their record label.
A video for “Crawling Across Your Killing Floor”, another track from the album, has been shot and will be released soon. Glenn was also a member of punk legends the Misfits.
Check Out the Lead Single and More!
Hey, if I could write about Queens of the Stone Age every week, I would. Besides, at the rate of recent issues, it’s practically that way already. Thanks to the creative people who post stuff on YouTube, here’s a couple of make-shift videos for lead single “Sick Sick Sick” and title track “Era Vulgaris”;
Over a Month Late, But Now Available For Your Viewing Pleasure
You may recall reading the live review for Creature Republic and Inner Surge’s live gig at the Castle Pub early last month. Well, there were pictures and I’ve finally gotten my act together and posted them.
You can find said pictures here. As always, if you click on the Photographs menu up at the top or bottom of the page, you’ll see all the posted photos from past gigs.
Full Video of "Heart Shaped Glasses" Features Lover Evan Rachel Wood
Marilyn Manson's first single from the forth-coming album "Eat Me, Drink Me" is "Heart Shaped Glasses" and he recently released the video for the song. As usual, there is some controversy surrounding the video as the full version depicts Manson and current lover Evan Rachel Wood having sex for a couple of minutes before the song starts. Some reports allege that the sex was real and that it was actually filmed in 3D. If both of those claims are true, that would mean there were cameras in multiple angles simultaneously. The video does not show any nudity however and Manson's people claim that the scene was simulated.
Regardless, here's the video and make sure that you are careful watching it as it may be inappropriate for some people and probably not something you'll want to watch at work...or the library...or at church...
By the way, for the record, Wood is half Manson's age (with her being 19 and he being 38).
Lead Single Now Available for Legal Download
The White Stripes have officially released the lead single and title track to their up-coming new album, “Icky Thump”. You might have already heard it on radio and you can download it at Puretracks.com and iTunes.ca, but if you just want to hear it on demand, check it out below;
In Stores Next Week
Yes! The May 2-4 weekend is here! The unofficial start of summer. Camping, beer, music and weather of all kinds! Let's not forget insane gas prices and horrible traffic. But let's focus on the music. Of course, the following selections won't be available to you until AFTER you get back from your long weekend frolicking, but it might remind you to pick up some older stuff from these artists. Either way, bring some tunes and piss off the campers/cottagers beside you!
Tim Armstrong ~ "A Poet's Life", the man largely responsible for great punk acts like, oh, I dunno...Rancid, Transplants and MOST IMPORTANTLY, Operation Ivy, delivers his first solo album said to have lots of reggae and punk sounds. It was supposed to be a free download (and still is going to be) but will also have a hard copy.
Ozzy Osbourne ~ "Black Rain", the Prince of Darkness returns after six years with a new solo album that promises to be a throw back to the Sabbath and "No More Tears" sound that made him ever so popular. He also tackles the environment on this disc and supposedly it's the first album he recorded sober. Way to go Ozzy! Please don't suck!
The Used ~ "Lies for the Liars", if for nothing else, I like the title. This is their third album and will also contain a bonus DVD.
The Bravery ~ "The Sun and the Moon", this New York quintet returns with their second album. Maybe there'll be another public battle with arch-enemies the Killers.
